The Digital Youth Center is a forward-looking educational and skills-development initiative established by Mersin Metropolitan Municipality as part of the “Today’s Youth, Future Professions” project, which is jointly financed by the European Union, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye (TBB). The center is located within the Yenişehir MERCEK Vocational Training Center and serves as a hub for young people aged roughly 18–35 to gain key digital competencies needed for the modern job market.
The Digital Youth Center aims to prepare young residents of Mersin for Industry 4.0 and the digital economy by offering structured training and practical learning experiences in high-demand areas such as data analysis, cybersecurity, digital marketing, e-commerce, software development, digital design, artificial intelligence, machine learning and basic computer skills. These programs are designed to strengthen youth employability, digital literacy, and capacity to innovate, aligning with evolving workforce needs.
At its core, the center combines modern technology infrastructure with expert-led instruction, providing both in-person training and plans for digital e-learning platforms that allow participants to continue learning remotely. Graduates of the center receive certificates that help validate their skills and support stronger connections to careers and internships in the digital sector.
The establishment of the Digital Youth Center in Mersin is part of a broader nationwide network of similar centers in 45 municipalities across Türkiye, all created under the same project framework to equip young people with the tools to thrive in technology-related fields and future professions.
By offering access to cutting-edge digital education and supporting the professional growth of young people, the Digital Youth Center reflects Mersin Metropolitan Municipality’s commitment to inclusive youth development, innovation, and sustainable local economic growth in the digital age.
