The Historic Cilicia Trail, implemented by Mersin Metropolitan Municipality and quickly becoming a favorite among nature hiking enthusiasts, is also attracting strong interest from clubs and communities. As one of the Municipality’s visionary projects aimed at revealing Mersin’s natural beauty and preserving it for future generations, the Cilicia Trail was recently explored by members of “Trek in Turkey” under the guidance of the Cilicia Trail Protection and Preservation Association. Coordinated by the Department of Culture, Arts and Social Affairs, the three-day hike brought together 30 nature lovers, who enjoyed the city’s natural heritage that unites history and nature.

The Cilicia Trail serves as an open-air museum for history and culture enthusiasts

During the hike along the Dadallı, Berdan Dam, and Kayadibi routes—covering Stages 1 and 2 of the Silk Road Section of the Cilicia Trail—the region’s historic Roman Roads and natural landscapes attracted great attention. Stage 29 of the Olba Section offered participants an unforgettable hiking experience, starting from Kızkalesi and extending through Elaiusa Sebaste, Çanakçı, and Kanlıdivane, accompanied by both stunning sea views and the atmosphere of ancient cities. The final route of the event, Stage 22 of the Olba Section, enabled participants to explore the region’s rich historical texture and natural beauty along the Uzuncaburç, Sumakalanı, and Keşlitürkmenli route.
