Vahap Seçer
Vahap Seçer, Mayor of Mersin Metropolitan Municipality, was born on October 5, 1963, in Tarsus, Mersin. He graduated from the Faculty of Agriculture at Çukurova University. As a young entrepreneur, Seçer invested in agricultural production, industry, and trade through the business he founded in 1987, where he served as both a board member and chairman.
Additionally, he is a member of the Chambers of Industry and Commerce, representing the business community, and as an agricultural engineer, he is a member of the Professional Chamber. Seçer has also participated in social initiatives as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Tarsus Power Union Foundation (Tarsus Güç Birliği Vakfı), which he founded to help raise modern, secular, and patriotic young people.
Vahap Seçer served as a Member of Parliament for Mersin from the Republican People’s Party (CHP) during the 23rd and 24th legislative terms (2007–2015). During his tenure, he was a member of both the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Commission and the Plan and Budget Commission, where he carried out effective and result-oriented work.
On July 16, 2025, Vahap Seçer was elected deputy President of the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye (TBB), demonstrating his strong commitment to strengthening local governance and fostering cooperation among municipalities.
Dedicated to developing projects that provide solutions to the challenges of the city where he was born and lives, Seçer was elected Mayor of Mersin Metropolitan Municipality in the Local Elections on March 31, 2019, and was reelected on March 31, 2024. He continues to serve in this role.
Vahap Seçer is married and has two children. He is also proficient in English.
