Milk support for Pregnancy care project, Pregnant Women’s Milk Project was launched by Mersin Metropolitan Municipality to support healthy and balanced nutrition for pregnant women, one of the groups most in need of social assistance. The project aims to protect the well-being of both the expectant mother and her unborn child by helping pregnant women access sufficient, high-quality nutrition throughout pregnancy. At the same time, it provides meaningful economic support by reducing the financial burden on families.
The project originated after identifying the challenges faced by pregnant women who struggled to access adequate nutrition. Based on research and field observations, the municipality designed a targeted support system for families experiencing economic hardship. As a result, expectant mothers receive a total of 12 liters of milk, delivered in 1-liter packages at 45-day intervals. This ensures consistent access to nutritious milk during pregnancy while easing household expenses.
Applications are open to pregnant women over the age of 18 who reside in Mersin. To apply, applicants must upload a document from a healthcare facility showing their pregnancy week, along with all required personal information. Deliveries are made from the nearest distribution point selected during the application, and the date and time are shared via SMS. Packages must be collected at the specified time; however, if one package is missed, there is no need to reapply for the next scheduled distribution.
The Pregnant Women’s Milk Project is recognized as one of Mersin Metropolitan Municipality’s exemplary social initiatives. Beyond simply distributing milk, it represents a broader effort to support maternal and infant health, strengthen families, and foster social solidarity.
