Baby Care & Nurture Project

Mersin Metropolitan Municipality recognized an important need years ago to improve the living conditions of babies, one of the most vulnerable groups in society. Low-income families with 6–12-month-old babies were facing increasing difficulty in meeting essential needs such as baby formula, diapers, and care products due to rising costs. This situation not only affected the healthy development of babies but also strained families psychologically and financially, creating serious social inequality.

For this reason, the municipality launched the El Bebek Gül Bebek Project (Baby Care & Nurture Project) with the aim not only of assisting but also of “adding safety, health, and love to a baby’s first year.” Although the project initially seemed like a small social support program, it quickly became one of Mersin’s most effective models of social solidarity. Because the project does more than distribute packages—it reminds families how precious a baby’s first months are, offering them encouragement and relief.

The monthly support packages include diapers, baby formula, shampoo, wet wipes, and basic care products. According to the municipality’s official information, these items were carefully selected based on the essential needs of babies aged 6–12 months.

Over time, the project expanded. Social service teams visited low-income households with babies across Mersin, delivering support packages directly to families’ homes. For these families, the packages represented not only financial assistance but also a message of solidarity: “We are here for you.” The regular support provided by the project has helped many mothers raise their babies more safely, healthily, and peacefully.

By 2025, the project had reached thousands of households across Mersin, distributing more than 53,000 support packages in total. This number clearly demonstrates the scale of the need the project responds to.

Today, the El Bebek Gül Bebek Project (Baby Care & Nurture Project) represents much more than a social support program in Mersin. It has become a symbol of solidarity, social responsibility, and the love devoted to the future of babies. Each package contributes to a baby’s happier smile, a mother’s easier breath, and a family’s renewed strength.
