Mersin Metropolitan Municipality provides support to greenhouse vegetable producers through the Department of Agricultural Services in three main categories: greenhouse twine, sticky traps, and liquid organic fertilizer. During the distribution events organised by the municipality, farmers affected by natural disasters—such as agricultural frost—are also taken into consideration. According to recent data, producers have received a total of 187,250 kg of greenhouse twine, 390,000 litres of liquid fertilizer, and 5,800 boxes of sticky traps.
The primary objective of these measures is to reduce production costs in greenhouse cultivation and to promote environmentally sustainable practices. The greenhouse twine reduces the financial burden on producers by offsetting the rising cost of essential inputs; sticky traps enable the control of harmful pests without the use of chemical pesticides; and liquid organic fertilizer helps decrease dependence on chemical fertilizers, thus supporting sustainable agriculture.
Small family farms and women farmers are prioritised within these support schemes. Through these interventions, the Municipality aims to increase productivity in greenhouse farming, lower input costs, and expand the adoption of ecological agricultural practices in the long term.
